Strategic indicator for higher education:vital benchmarks and information to help you evaluate and improve your institutions performance/ Barbara E.Taylor;William E.Massy
This book was written to report and expound upon a survey entitled Survey of Strategic Indicators for Higher Education-1995" that was mailed to the presidents of 2372 colleges and universities in November 1995. The authors with support from staff members at Peterson's Guides mailed a comprehensive six part 172 item survey to institutional presidents. This was the second survey report of its kind the first having been published in 1993 . After a follow-up letter to nonrespondents in January 1996 992 institutions completed and returned survey instruments. This resulted in an overall 42% response which ranged from a 27 % return from two-year colleges to a 58% return from private institutions with tuition between $9000 and $12 000 per year. Other type schools in the study were regional public institutions research and landgrant universities and private institutions with tuition under $9000 and over $12000. These six institutional categories were used to report results. The authors are well respected members of the higher education community although neither has experience in student affairs or closely related areas. Barbara Taylor was Vice President for Programs and Research at the Association of Governing Boards when writing the book and William Massey is Professor of Education and Business Administration at Stanford University. They note in the introduction that both editions of Strategic Indicators were outgrowths of two pioneering studies published by the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges -Strategic Analysis: Using Comparative Data to Understand Your Institution and Strategic Decision Making: Key"
