The change in title for this sixth edition of Book Selection" reflects a move towards a more inclusive approach to reflect the realities of the principles and practice of selecting materials for library users. The text provides guidance on basic selection procedures for both print-based and electronic materials and it also covers the provision vs access debate. Key strategies and techniques covered include: selection policy; budgeting assessing users' requirements logistics weeding stock revision and performance measurement and evaluating materials. The requirements of certain categories of "special materials" are then considered in the light of these strategies and techniques.
